Edition #5 / Week 1, Year 15

I promised you the next chapter of JoJo and Kit, and I have done so. I reccomend anazlying the content of this chapter. I had to do some research to write this chapter back in 6th grade. You may even want to ask yourself: Why was everything so cheap? What decade would this be? Just something to consider while reading :)

I have two more writing prompts to write about, so those will be posted in the next blogs hopefully.

JoJo leaped out of bed. She then realized that she was in HER room. NOT the evil torture house. She sighed and got back into her bed. The bed was already up there by the afternoon yesterday.“JoJo! It’s time to get up!” Kit called.

JoJo groaned and sat up.

“Chicken time!”

Kit came up the stairs and pulled a red flower patterned dress out of her closet.

“This doesn’t fit me anymore.” She says. “I think it will fit you, seeing you are a year younger.”

JoJo liked the dress right away. It was a lot shorter! YAY!!! Kit and JoJo went downstairs and passed people sitting at the kitchen table. Then they went outside to the chicken coop.

“We sell eggs to get money.” Kit explains as her and JoJo start collecting eggs.

JoJo loved petting the chickens. She didn’t know why. She was just happy. Happy that she was away. Away from her hard life. Her life was so hard.

“If we sell enough today momma said we can go to the theatre tonight!” Kit squealed with delight as she finished.

“The theatre!” JoJo asked.

Oh, how she had always dreamed of going to the theatre! It was a place of her dreams. She had heard about it. It sounded magical.

“So what do we do know?” JoJo asked.

Kit sorted the eggs into cartons and put it in a wagon.

“Well, we go to our roadside shop and sell eggs!” Kit explains. “C’mon! Follow me!”

The girls run down the street and down to the little stand. JoJo observed the sign.

“Fresh Fruit, Eggs, and Veggies!” It read.

JoJo smiles as she helped Kit setup. The road was filled with people and cars. It was amazing. JoJo felt right at home here.

A man walks up to the stand and says, “Hello, young ladies. Can I please buy two apples and a dozen eggs?”

“That’ll be seven cents sir!” Kit says and hands the man his food. “Have a nice day!”

JoJo was fantasized. It was so easy to get so much money? But how where they gonna be able to raise enough money?

Six more people came and went. JoJo counted up all the coins and gasped. “Fifty cents!” She squealed. “How much can we buy with that?”

“Two tickets to the show tonight.” Kit sighed. “But we still need more for momma and the borders!”

JoJo nodded and got right back to work.

The bright summer sun shone down and sweat droplets formed on the girls faces. JoJo was having to wipe the sweat off her forehead. She was not happy.

“Oh, hey!” She said. “I’ll be right back. I have an idea!”

Kit said okay and JoJo ran all the way back to the house. She grabbed five lemons and a pitcher of water. Then she ran all the way back.

“Lemonade!” Kit squealed. “That’s perfect!”

“Five cents a cup!” JoJo said as she began to squeeze the lemons.

The day dragged on. Slowly at first. But then more and more people began to show up. The girls had been there for two hours already and they had twenty customers.

“Well, that’s good for today!” Kit says with satisfaction. “C’mon, let’s pack up. I need water!”

“We made three dollars.” JoJo says. “That’s good right?”

“Yes! VERY VERY GOOD!” The girls start to walk home.

“The stand is open on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 o’clock to 11.” Kit explains as they grab a drink and head upstairs.

“So we run the stand?” JoJo asks. “Yep. It’s fun. We get money too. Ya know. I think we should go to the performance tomorrow.” Kit suggested. “We’ll run the stand tomorrow to save up some money.”

“I like that.”

“Let’s go give two dollars to momma.” Kit says. They walk downstairs and show their mom the money. She gives both of them a hug.

“You girls are so amazing! Now, Kit. It’s time you had better get going on your article.” Mrs. Kittredge says.

JoJo was confused. “Oh, you’ll love it.” Kit reassures her.
