From the Kitchen

Welcome back to the blog where I make you drool by showcasing some incredible harry potter themed food recipes! In this blog, I’m going to write about two recipes, the first being ‘corned beef sandwiches’ and the second, ‘Harry Potter’s 11th birthday cake’!

Corned beef sandwiches were prepared by Molly Weasley for Ron’s first trip to Hogwarts! Ron was not particularly fond of these sandwiches though. I am sure, by now everyone knows what sandwiches I am talking about! They do look yummy, I don’t get why Ron didn’t like them. Allergies maybe? Who knows!

Harry Potter’s 11th birthday cake that was prepared by Hagrid is something I am not sure I’d eat but one thing I am sure about is that Hagrid made that cake from his heart! The writing on the cake ‘Happee Birthdae Harry’ show how charming Hagrid was or maybe he just wasn’t good at spellings.

Corned beef sandwiches

Recipe from: https://www.bradleybakes.co.uk/post
/deli-corned-beef-sandwich

Ingredients:
• A few slices of bread (depends on how many sandwiches you wanna eat)
• Butter to spread
• 2-3 tbsp mustard
• A tin of corned beef/ pre-sliced corned beef
• A few pickles
• Slices of cheese (depends if you like cheese)
• 1 iceberg lettuce (who doesn't love this!)
• A few Tomatoes and Red onion because vegetables are important kids

Instructions:
1. Prepare your fillings by thinly slicing the red onion, shredding the lettuce and then slicing the tomatoes and pickles. If using tin corned beef, remove it from the tin and slice.
2. Slice the bread and butter the sides. You can begin stacking by adding cheese. Add as many as you wish, then follow it with some corned beef and mix it with some slices of pickles, red onions and tomatoes. Add some mustard and lettuce to give it more flavour and lastly, add cheese if you really love cheese! Use skewers to help with stability if the sandwich is leaning.
3. Slice through and serve immediately or you could wrap it with foil or wax paper and have it at a later time.

This looks mouth-watering and I am suddenly hungry, I wonder why..

Harry Potter's 11th birthday cake

Recipe from: https://www.sonshinekitchen.com/

Ingredients:
For the chocolate cake:
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 1/3 cups granulated sugar
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp baking soda and salt
• 1/2 cup butter
• 1 cup milk
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 2 eggs
• 2 oz semisweet chocolate bars (melted)
For cream cheese frosting:
• 4 oz butter and 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
• 2 cups powdered sugar
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 2 drops red food colouring and green writing gel

Instructions:
Chocolate cake:
1. Preheat the oven to 350F.
2. Make sure to grease and flour two 8 or 9 inch round cake pans!
3. Combine the dry ingredients in a mixer bowl.
4. Add butter, milk, and vanilla, sounds yum I know!
5. Attach flat beater and set speed to 2 for about 1 minute.
6. Add eggs and chocolate and continue on speed 2 for 30 seconds.
7. Increase speed to 6 for another minute, it should mix nicely!
8. Pour batter into pans and bake for 30-45 minutes, your chocolate cake should look ready. You can bake it for a few more minutes if needed.
9. Cool 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a cooling rack, you need to control yourself and not eat it now because the frosting part is still left, I know it’s hard but you can do it!
Cream cheese frosting:
1. Add butter and cream cheese to the mixing bowl. This already looks tempting...
2. Attach the paddle attachment to the bowl and mix on 4 until mixed well.
3. Stir it and while doing that, add half of the powdered sugar and mix until it looks creamy and smooth.
4. Add the other half of the powdered sugar until creamy and smooth and beat in the vanilla extract.
5. Add a tiny amount of red food colouring to make the frosting pink.
6. Once the cake has cooled, add a small amount of pink frosting between the layers of cake and stack them. The cake seems to be coming together!
7. Cover the top and sides of the cake with the pink frosting and use the green writing gel to write “Happy Birthday Harry” or “Happee Birthdae Harry” as in the movie on the cake!

The instructions are a lot to take but it's worth it once you bake this beautiful looking cake!

Some Fascinating Facts you might not know
Ron’s sandwich was made by his mother, Molly Weasley. The sandwich was first seen in Ron’s hand on the train to Hogwarts. The sandwich did not really look tempting mostly because the Weasley’s weren’t exactly the rich kind and the beef used was probably leftovers or old meat. Ron was known to hate the sandwiches. They aren’t sold here on WoP mostly because Molly Weasley would have to be here making them every day and that doesn’t seem to be possible!

Harry Potter’s 11th birthday cake made by Hagrid was not particularly the best cake you might have ever seen in terms of looks and maybe the taste but he did bake that cake purely out of love. Harry had a big smile on his face seeing the cake which showed that he didn’t care about the looks of the cook but the thought that went behind it. Hagrid did mention that he might have sat on it while visiting Harry on his motorbike. Hagrid isn’t exactly known to be a cook and that is why you don’t see any edibles made by Hagrid on WoP!

Question of the day
Would you try both these dishes if Hagrid personally made them for you and even bought them for you by travelling on his magical motorbike?

Let me know in the comments!

Do not overeat like Ron does or a ghost might show up!
