Golden-Horned Accordion Antelope

by Ellis Davies

Golden-Horned Accordion Antelope

Physical Appearance:

Golden-Horned Accordion Antelope are hard to spot with their speckled green coat. They are identifiable with their golden-colored horns and their purple irises. Their most noticeable feature is their light green long neck, which has multiple folds. The neck itself resembles an accordion, and can collapse if needed to pop out to ram their enemies. They use their neck like a snake, and instead of ending their prey with their flat hippo-like teeth, they prefer to suffocate. They have a slightly corrosive saliva that allows them to consume plant life and creature carcasses.

Habitat:

They live in dense woodlands, often with a small herd. They prefer to stay in the brush, blending in to protect themselves and to hunt.

Ministry of Magic Classification:

XXXX - Dangerous / requires specialist knowledge / skilled wizard may handle

Reported Sighting:

Eloise Wilson took only shallow breaths as she slunk through the dense forest. She had been tracking this specific herd for a couple of days now, keeping her distance to preserve her life. The Golden-Horned Accordion Antelope were in smaller numbers now, seeing how people had hunted them for their horns. Now they had evolved to be aggressive towards witches and wizards. Still, she had to make sure that this herd was alright.

And then she spotted them. The herd. Eloise's eyes landed on them, counting about five of them. One of them was... a baby. Still a bit wobbly on their feet, and their horn bumps not even there. They were absolutely adorable, their eyes still a bit glazed. They waddled beside what she presumed was their mother and herd leader, who's purple irises were trained on... her. On Eloise. Oh darn.

Without so much as a warning, the mother Antelope lept and charged towards her, neck tucked in and horns first. Eloise fumbled for her wand and dove to the other side as their neck expanded and splintered the tree that Eloise was once in front of. Their saliva dripped from their maw, slightly eroding the grass below. They panted, walking towards a downed Eloise, their neck retracting into their body. Eloise scrambled to her feet, staring up at the creature with bated breath. She smiled awkwardly, readjusting her grip on her wand. She'd have to fight her way out of this one. So, with a soft voice, she spoke. "H-Hello there..."

Naturine

by Violet Stokes

Naturine

Physical Appearance:

The extremely green body that would be shown onto the creature’s body was actually not too visible, due to the fact you usually won’t see it around. The main color of camouflage was spread all over the creature’s body, from head to hoof at this point.

As nature was it’s main aspect, flowers and grass floated along the creatures' back and head. Which can be a great way to blend in with its surrounding if threatening moments come around the corner. Although it may not be the attacker to most, it defends itself with its hollow yet buff grey horns that don’t weigh much more than most.

Yes, horns may be cool and all but on each Naturine a scar is shown. This scar is different and unique to each creature. As of this species you’ll always have a surprise once you find it.

Habitat:

From the name of this miraculously green-like creature, you could probably tell it’s most natural habitat would be anywhere in the nature our Earth has beholden, but this is under the circumstances of having its surroundings green like itself. Bushes, trees and just plainly extremely tall grass will do the trick to keep the creature safe and it’s species around it.

Ministry of Magic Classification:

XX - Harmless / may be domesticated

Reported Sighting:

Another adventure would pop just right around the corner for the older graduate Bonita Wilder, whom studied Magizoology for years at a time but still didn’t seem to find those unique and interesting looking creatures like most of the other occupation members.

Was she doing something wrong? Did animals just not like her? Was this the job for her?

Too many negative things have been placed into her mind after just finding Niffler’s every which way until the one night she had taken off work, just to clear her head from what thoughts filled her mind.

Having her evening tea while reading the big news platform which was called, ‘The Daily Prophet’. There always seemed to be some good news to cheer up Bonita but how could they’re been when the career she dreamed of since she was a kid could just go crashing down like domino’s.

The start of the first article intrigued the woman at once but was soonly interrupted by the sound of rummaging in her brightly green bushes that were once dull in the Winter. As it was still light outside and the weather was nice, what a great trip to take into her own forest far beyond the grassland in the back of her house.

Tea had spilled all over her clothing due to the excitement that brewed and bubbled up like a potion. As the whole drink just seemed to magically dissolve a quick chuck of the cup had happened as Bonita sprinted out the door hoping to actually find something worth her time.

Far beyond where she was planted in the grass you could see the tall and large trunks of trees standing like humongous giants waiting to attack the neighborhood. But beyond the site of that, two bright purple specks had peaked out from one of the bushes nearby to where Bonita had stood.

“You can come out, I won’t hurt you or even touch you if that’s what you prefer.”

The bushes had moved just a tad bit but the eyes stayed and the eyes stared, with almost having a curious glint streaming from the majestic purple color.

The girl had not even once experienced a creature quite like this but there was no reason or way for her to know what to do in these certain circumstances.

“I promise you I won’t do anything that would harm you, I just-, I just want to actually be proud of myself and take responsibility….”

Oh merlin’s biscuits why is she talking about her career life with a creature that probably doesn’t even understand her! But maybe she was wrong, out ventured a green, a very green animal it was. With grey horns that stuck out like carrots and flowers dangled on every part of its body.

“Whoa” was the only word the lady could let out. Not even a simple ‘hello’ could slip until she saw a scar, a scar that wasn’t through a fight but through birth.

~A dream come true~

Vibrissa Mystax

by Tulia Hawkins

Vibrissa Mystax

Physical Appearance:

While difficult to get a precise look at it, it appears to be a creature of about 4-6 feet in diameter, covered in thick, bristly whiskers. Like fur, but the whiskers all branch out, sending information to the animal, which has large eyes and two strong peg like feet, which it used to drag it's vaguely round shaped body through the shadows. It is nocturnal and is thought to feed on small prey and nightmares. The Mystax has a delicate touch and those times you think you feel a bug crawling on you, but find nothing and so you say 'oh it was just my hair' . . it may have been that you were sought out by a mystax!

It's fur is black, with occasional grey and the eyes are orange or purple. It sticks to the shadows and sometimes all you see is a gleam in the night.

Habitat:

Under beds, in closets, in shrubberies close to suburbs. The western hemisphere.

Ministry of Magic Classification:

XXX - Competent wizard should cope

Reported Sighting:

Doreen should have been on top of the world! Celestina Warbeck was allowing her to sing on her program! The 18 year old had been at the top of her game all through the latter years of her Hogwarts terms. She was beautiful, talented, so what if she rarely studied? She was going to be famous!

Her younger brother, Howard, often shook his head and warned her . . but of what, she didn't know. She wasn't listening.

But ever since she knew she would be singing with a true celebrity, she hadn't been able to sleep. Nightmares of going up there and forgetting all the words, of croaking like a frog, of suddenly wearing her brother's pajamas had filled her with horror!

The night before the Big Event, she had tossed and turned as she was plagued by the worst dream of all. She had sung alright, Celestina wanted to crown her the Queen of Music! Doreen had bowed and . . and . her hair had fallen off! All of it! Out by the roots! Screaming, she woke up, trying to shove her hair back on her head! Doreen found herself covered in sweat, her sheets twisted by her tossing and her hands on her head. She pulled her hands down, only to discover that instead ofher golden hair, they were covered by a spiky, black . . . creature! Now really screaming, she threw it, just as Howard stumbled in, wand at the ready. "Lumos Maxima!" The boy said firmly, pointing the wand at the strange animal. It shuddered, it's spines clacking and then it scampered out the window and into the shadows. Howard walked over to the window, closed it and frowned at his sister. "You really need to keep that closed at night. Or at least learn some useful spells."

She didn't listen, but she was always grateful. Howard, in turn, found that he had an interest in creatures and grew up to be a incredibly successful, if very little known magizoologist.

Heerokant

by Alexia Graham

Heerokant

More Information

Physical Appearance:

The Heerokant is similar in size to a bobcat, a bit on the smaller side of large, deadly cats. The large dark brown cat has a body similar to the bobcat, but with a few key distinctions. The most notable feature is the large hump on its back and resembles that of a camel. The next feature one may notice is the tail which mirrors a large, spike filled club. The tail grows thicker at the end and has long, sharp spikes sticking out of it. Many have said the head of the heerokant reminds them of a unicorn. This is due to the large horn on top of its head that ends in a large bulge. A smaller feature many miss is the white paws found on every heerokant, and a white underbelly for pregnant females.

Habitat:

The heerokant lives deep in the African Savanna, away from nearly all muggle life.

Ministry of Magic Classification:

XXXX - Dangerous / requires specialist knowledge / skilled wizard may handle

Reported Sighting:

Marin (NPC) had been watching the heerokant for weeks from a distance. The creature had noticed her on multiple occasions, but never approached. Marin knew it was a pregnant female by its white underbelly and protectiveness over her cubs. Seeing as the witch herself had just discovered her own pregnancy, she decided to finally make her move. Heerokants were known to protect females, particularly pregnant ones. While none had been able to befriend it before, Marin had an overwhelming feeling that her own pregnancy would keep her safe.

Approaching it cautiously, Marin made her way out of the bushes she was hiding behind, maintaining eye contact with the mother she nicknamed Nala. Nala watched carefully as the witch approached, giving what seemed like a nod of approval as Marin neared closer. The witch reached Nala and her cubs, crouching down in front to show she was not a threat. The young male cub swung it’s venom filled tail at her in an attempt to attack, but Nala stopped him in time. The large hump on their backs, full of venom, was a dangerous thing to be around, but as Marin rested her hand on the side of Nala’s head, she could feel the creature nuzzle close to her. She took that opportunity to inspect the bulge at the end of her horn. The large ball shaped mass was a defense mechanism heerokants developed as they aged, a defense mechanism when it became too much work to swing their club-like tails.

Marin sat down and laughed at the smaller heerokants approached her as if to cuddle. The cats were known to be deadly, and no magizoologist had ever been able to get one to not just be kind, but allow a witch or wizard to approach. One of the most protective creature Marin had ever met, they seemed to sense when any type of creature was pregnant. It was rumored one witch found out she was pregnant after her husband was attacked and she was left completely unharmed.

The young witch wished she could stay all month, but instead she spent every second taking in the details, from their light-footed walk, to their pacing around in a circle, scaring off even the lion that approached. With the King of the Jungle in fear of the XXXXX beings, Marin had a thought, scribbling it down in her journal quickly. “These creatures can be trained. The pregnant heerokant not only let me approach but showed affection to me. If trained by women who were pregnant at the time, the would probably listen. I would even guess that once that trust and bond is formed, they would continue to listen, one mother to another. These creatures should not be XXXXX but instead XXXX. Heerokants don't kill for fun, but only to survive and to protect those they think need it most. I was protected by a family for over a week, what else could we discover if we sent those heerokants trust most?”

Hvalspiser

by Mira Astaret

Hvalspiser

More Information

Physical Appearance:

The Hvalspiser is an aquatic big cat with venomous teeth about three times the size of a snow leopard. Its thick fur changes color, much like an octopus's skin, to camouflage against the environment. This mostly depends on the color of the waves. It also has blubber. The Hvalspiser has larger paws proportionately than most big cats, and they're webbed for better swimming abilities. The jaw can unhinge to take larger bites, and the stomach seems to have a natural version of the Undetectable Extension Charm- able to hold much more food for long periods of time. This is because the Hvalspiser's prey is humpback whales, so they usually kill a whale and eat the whole thing, providing them enough food for about six months or so before they must eat again.

Habitat:

All oceans. Hvalspisers follow the migration patterns of their prey, the Humpback Whale.

Ministry of Magic Classification:

XXX - Competent wizard should cope

Reported Sighting:

Catherine Rickson, a magizoologist, was looking for a reported school of shrakes in the Atlantic Ocean when she spotted a humpback whale that was obviously struggling against something. Rickson noticed the telltale sign of a fast-acting poison, and the whale quickly died. Although they're nonmagical species, it takes a lot to kill them so she took notice. It was very difficult to spot the Hvalspiser, because of its camouflaged fur, but when the big cat began tearing chunks of flesh off its kill she was able to spot it. The Hvalspiser was obviously startled by the appearance of Rickson on a broom, so it abandoned its kill after only eating about a third of the whale. Rickson was in possession of an Invisibility Cloak woven from Demiguise Hair, so she was able to follow the cat unnoticed. After about ten minutes, the cat seemed to have recovered from its startle and returned to its kill. Rickson noticed how the Hvalspiser could unhinge its jaw and rip off extremely large chunks, but also how the cat seemed to be eating more than it should've been possible to eat for an animal of its size. After the cat had entirely finished off the humpback, taking only about half an hour after it'd returned to the kill, the cat swam some distance away and completely camouflaged itself. Rickson would have guessed invisibility was the cause, but every so often a fish would pass underneath and not appear beneath the cat's body. The color of the fur even mimicked the subtle movements and changes of the waves. During this time, the Hvalspiser didn't move at all except an occasional, minuscule movement of a webbed paw- just enough to stay afloat. After discovering this new form of aquatic life, Rickson followed the Hvalspiser for a year. During that time, there were only four major spurts of movement. Twice, every six months or so, the big cat put on a burst of speed and energy and hunted a humpback whale. Once, the Hvalspiser put on a burst of speed that did not result in a kill to swim about twenty miles before resuming the sedentary floating pattern. Rickson later found out that there was an orca pod hunting ten miles away, suggesting that the creature's instincts are razor-sharp. The second time, a lone great white shark came too close to the Hvalspiser's resting place. Evidently, the Hvalspiser considered this a worthy use of energy, because the big cat engaged in an ocean battle with the shark that lasted about five minutes. The Hvalspiser sustained one, non-threatening bite. The shark was eaten. How fast? Catherine Rickson, following along on a broom overhead, could barely keep up with the Hvalspiser when the cat decided to swim any meaningful distance. Other than these spurts, the Hvalspiser was a very boring target to track. The big cat mainly floats in a sedentary position, exerting exactly enough energy to stay afloat and follow along with the humpback pod that it is following unless danger approaches.

Petócanis

by Madelynne Scamander

Petócanis

More Information

Physical Appearance:

With a generally canine-looking body much resembling that of a greyhound except mossy green in color, the Petócanis [πετώ, to fly (Greek) + canis, dog (Latin)]'s most impressive feature is easily its large, colorful wings (not unlike an alebrije’s). It’s snout has cat-like whiskers that sense the air’s movement to benefit in hunting in low-light environments. The tail is tipped with a scorpion-esque venomous barb, and it is hypothesized that the venom causes temporary paralysis and great pain. Thankfully, Petrócanis are a peaceful species, only dangerous when threatened.

Habitat:

Rainforests, mostly in South America, Africa, and parts of Australia, such as the Amazon Rainforest or the Congo Basin Rainforest.

Ministry of Magic Classification:

XXXX - Dangerous / requires specialist knowledge / skilled wizard may handle

Reported Sighting:

Mathilda Grimblehawk (fl. 1991) of the British Ministry of Magic’s Beast Division, and Magizoologist, was known for her excitement… so you can imagine her emotions when she’d first spotted a glimpse of the elusive and now, even legendary Petrócanis, the tropical winged dog-creature. The animal moved quietly, almost silently in the foliage, and even though its wings would have been a dead giveaway it now seemed an extremely effective camouflage amongst the reds and greens and blues of the vibrant ecosystem. Before, the Amazon was home to one of the only known pair of Petrócanis… there had been no other sightings as the Beast Division could confidently confirm. But now there were more! Here, right in front of her, in the Daintree Rainforest of Australia. And she could confirm it, too — the small camera she held already was filled with pictures. So engrossed in her wonder she didn’t hear the it come up behind her…

Mathilda Grimblehawk could also confirm two other things. ‘Her’ creatures were skilled at camoflague, and Petrócanis venom hurt like a b****.

[MATHILDA! You can’t use that kind of language on tape!]
