I Sought The Stories

Hey everyone! Sorry for the late post, but here is chapter 2!

Emery knew something was up the very moment she flickered. She was a very attentive person who never missed any details. Perhaps that was the reason she was not scared when she flickered. Maybe other people were experiencing this also and were scared.

She named it flickering right after she... well, she would have to look for a good name for when they snapped out of the flicker. She was sitting in her chair at school while the teacher talked and talked. Emery. She heard the annoying boy say. She could feel herself become lighter, but she remained focused on her chair. She was not in the mood to talk to that boy. She dug her nails into the desk and hunched her shoulders.

No! She yelled, but it was too late. She watched her body as she herself floated up into darkness. She folded her arms and huffed. Logan! We are in the middle of class! What is so important! She could almost feel Logan’s smirk. It was disgusting to her, that this boy would disrupt class for some silly talk.

I just think this is so cool. I mean, it’s like an out of body experience. Don’t you want to know why it’s happening to us? Of course she wanted to know, but not during class. She had math to worry about. So can we just ditch class?

Absolutely not! No, I am going to revive and focus on learning. With that she faded back down to her seat. She looked over to Logan but his body wasn’t moving. So Emery looked back at the teacher to see if she had noticed Em was.... Dead looking. But the teacher had her back to the class and was writing equation after equation.

Emery caught up and filled in what she missed then sneaked a glance back at Logan who was sitting in the back of the room. He was now scribbling furiously in his notebook. Of course he wanted to get out of math. Emery never liked Logan; she thought he was lazy and very uncool. When class was over Emery and Logan parted their separate ways. Emery had lunch now, and she was meeting with Harley. True, she had no idea who this Harley girl was, but she knew she could easily contact her. She let herself flicker. Harley?

Hi!!!!!! Okay, so I'll be at the table near the far window to the left.

Harley only flickered for a total of ten seconds before she left, leaving Emery to quickly remember what the little girl had said. Table near the window... well there were three tables near windows. Had she said left? Or right? Left it was.

“Harley?” Em asked as she slid into the seat next to a VERY young girl.

“Emery?” She asked with excitement in her eyes. And then she started jumping in her chair! Emery didn’t know this child was so young. “OMG!” Who said that anymore?! “It’s really you! This is so cool! I have like a bajillion questions.”

“Wow,” Em said holding her hands up. “Slow down child!”

“What grade are you in?”

“FOURTH!”

“See? Child. I proved my point.” Emery ruffled the girls hair, only to be swatted away. “How rude and inconsiderate!”

“Excuse me?”

“Never mind.”

“So.... why can we do this weird fainting thing?” Harley asked while taking a large bite of her apple.

“Flickering, I named it myself. I have no idea why. It’s really strange. Almost like-”

“Magic?”

“Yes! But I have no idea why. That’s the real question. Why us and how many other people?” Emery tapped her chin in thought. “I guess we have a lot of things to work out. It is really strange. I think there must be a purpose.”

“Maybe we’re superheroes.” Harley shrugged her shoulders. “With powers to fight evil.”

“But we don’t have villains. If anything, we have bank robberies and stuff.”

“That’s true. Maybe we’re secretly from another world. Or.. even adopted!”

“That would be horrible. I know I’m not adopted. I’ve seen pictures and stuff.” Emery snickered lightly. “Why don’t we try to contact other people.”

“I don’t know how.” Harley shrugged her shoulders.

“We’ll figure it out. Ready?”
