Edition #4 / Week 10, Year 14

Today will also be a cringy blog but this story was onen of my favorites. I completed it in two weeks and I think it was over 8,000 words. I remember working non stop in this story and even sneaking in some typing time while in class.

I can't post the first chapter because it talks of child abuse so I'll give you the gist: JoJo is an orphan living as a servant to a family in the early 1930's. She meets a stray puppy while doing chores. She get's in trouble. At night, she likes to type with her typewriter. There is much she wants to do with her life. But all she says in "no no no". The chapter ends with Mr. White bursting into her room.

I promise I'll post more chapters in the next blogs. I also have TWO writing prompts in the waiting!

My mother pulled at my hair as she styled it.Today was special. Today I was getting a sister!

My name is Kit. I live in a boarding house. My parents own it. I have many chores as well. My favorite is selling food on the side of the road. One day I earned $3.00!!!!!!!!! It was so amazing.

The depression is hard. It’s hit America because of this world war 2. Grrrrrr.... Well back to the story...

“Now yiu be nice, Kit.” Mom reminds me.

I just nod and unlock the front gate. We begin to walk down the street towards the police station. My hands were sweaty. The humidity wasn’t helping. “Mom?” I ask. “What is her name?”

“JoJo.” I smile. I really like that name. We head into the office and go to the sign in desk.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
JoJo is just sitting on the couch. Were back home now. Welcome home JoJo. I’m not sure if she likes it here. I hope she does.
“I knew your parents.” MY mom says.
“YOU DID?!” JoJo gasps. Then adds quieter, “Sorry, ma’am.”
My mother laughs. “Please, call me mom.”
“OK, MOM.”
My smile turns into a frown. Mom? Well.... “Kit, you and JoJo will be sharing a room now.” Mom smiles. I give a fake smile. Great.
JoJo follows me up to the attic. She jumps around my room and plops down on my bed. “I love it here! THank you so much Kit! I’m so happy were sisters!”
“So, what was your life like before....?” I asked. She sighs.
“No. I was a servant.”
“A servant?!” I screech.
“Yes. I was forced to do all the chores.”
I was shocked. Who would do something like that? It made me mad. Like really mad. I wanted to scream.
“Well, you’re here now.” I say finally.
She smiles. “Yeah.”
Dear Diary,
Kit’s mom and dad owned this house, but to raise money they let people board here. Now they adopted me. I love it! Kit is really nice. She has a typewriter! Can you believe that?! She says she is also a detective. Sounds cool. Well, I have to go help Kit make supper. CHICKEN! YUMMM!!! ~~~~~~~
After supper, Kit, JoJo, and another boy named Greg who lived there, played hide-n-seek outside.
“1...2...3.” Started Kit.. JoJo ran into the chicken coop and hid there. Greg ran behind the water basin. Kit started looking everywhere. She looked, and looked.
Nothing.
“COME OUT!” She yelled.
“Here!” Said JoJo leaping out of the coop. She had chicken poop on her brand new shoe. She sighed. “Oh! My new shoes!” She cried.
“Use this basin!” Called Greg as he came out of his hiding place. The three worked together to get the poop off JoJo’s shoes. They had done it.
“We’re a good team.” JoJo said. Kit and Greg laughed.
“Greg’s a doofus.” Kit said.
“Kit’s an even bigger doofus.”
“Am not!”
“Are to!” All of them burst out laughing and collapsed onto the ground. JoJo was really liking her new family.
