This particular potion first appeared in LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4. In the game, there was a Wizard’s Chess Challenge. One of the questions asks for you to correctly identify the ingredient used in the Pumpkin Potion. The funny thing is, two of the correct ingredients are shown as options, but only the Flitterby Moth is accepted as the correct option. That’s a bit odd don’t you think?
Either way, it’s a part of the history of the Pompion Potion. It is believed that the Pumpkin-Head Jinx, Melofors, is the magical component used to complete the potion. There was a rumor that Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge was a victim of the Pumpkin-Head Jinx I mentioned earlier, but what if the Minister was actually give Pumpkin Potion instead?
The Quick FactsEveryone loves a good prank right? One of the best pranks a magical person can pull is giving another magical person a drink - but not just any drink. This orange coloured potion is fantastic to give your sibling, or your enemy, and temporarily turns their head into a Pumpkin.
Hogwarts students learn this usually in their first year Potions class, and while it is commonly referred to as the Pumpkin Potion, the technical name for is the Pompion Potion. The spell counterpart to the is the Pumpkin-Head Jinx, which encases the target’s head within a giant pumpkin.
The Creator
The creator of a potion is usually a potioneer, or sometimes someone who was trying to make one potion, added the wrong ingredient, and accidentally made another. Unfortunately, the Pumpkin Potion is neither of those cases.
Well, it might be, but the creator has never come forward, so figuring who that is and how they stumbled upon the affect of this potion will forever be unknown. What if it was a student at Hogwarts that made the potion? They wanted to prank their friend for halloween so they threw some stuff together and voila, the Pumpkin Potion was born.
Ingredients and how to brew!
While two of the Ingredients for the Pumpkin Potion were mentioned before, there are actually three known ingredients in this orange coloured liquid. The Flitterby Moth, which has a scarlet glow around its wings and is attracted to heat, is one of the ingredients, and the one taken as the correct answer to the Wizard’s Chess Questions in LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4.
The second ingredient, which is listed in the same question mentioned before, is a bouncing bulb. It is a magical plant with a purple bulb, and it jumps around if not restrained, which also makes it an extremely difficult plant to pot.
The final ingredient to this potion is the Foxglove plant, which when ingested outside of a potion, is poisonous to its eater.
To brew the Pumpkin Potion, you must first have a cauldron. Then, crush the Flitterby Moth and add it to the cauldron, then proceed to stir clockwise until the mixture turns green.
Next, you’ll want to crush the bouncing bulb in a mortar, add to the cauldron, and stir counterclockwise until the mixture is red. Finally, slice the Foxglove, and add it to the cauldron before stirring clockwise until the mixture turns orange. Once this is done, you have successfully completed the Pompion Potion!
