The chatter and bustle of the customers consistantly filled the shop. If you were magic folk shopping there, you would have definently picked up on some of their conversations before a different one interupted the first. But, it was all background noise, really, because the majority's focal points were on their disired purchases. There seemed to be only one person that was finished with thier shopping. They thanked the kind clerk after their items were packaged, gathering everything in their arms before carefully leaving.
The difference between being inside and outside the shop was so very jarring. Inside was warm and welcoming, lantern light had softly illuminated every inch. And even though it was unfairly crowded, it had provided the comfort of company. Outside was eerily quiet. Like any and all sound had been cut off by the door closing shut. The individual that stepped out decided to look up slightly to see that the snow was percistantly falling. They shivered from the cold and biting air surrounding them.
As they looked over to their right they noticed that there does not seem to be anyone outside with them. The cobbled streets of Hogsmeade were somehow abandoned. It was barely being illuminated by the soft glows that emanated from the light inside the shops. It was an exceptionally foggy night. Taking a sharp intake of breath, they walk onward once more.
They could swear they felt the snow through the soles of my shoes. Left step,
crunch. Right step,
crunch.
Crunch, crunch, crunch. The alley way was longer than I remember it to be.
'I'll keep going.' They thought to themselves. It's funny how being isolated can force you into pensive thinking. Especially about your surroundings. Especially because this individual could not see too far infront of them. With that being said... they spot something in the short distance.
A door had opened, but no one stepped out. They stop for a second, for both their safety and for their curiousity. Are those...? A handful of candles drifted out. All of them are lit and seemingly enchanted to float out into the cold to stop near by the shop it came from. They gave off the warmest glow. It's was a very beautiful sight. Surely walking would be easier now if the person had set their sights to walk towards the candles.
Crunch. Crunch. Crunch. Looking at them up close, the witch or wizard had gotten an idea. It surprised them that the shop where the candles came from wasn't crowded. But, never the less they bought a handful of candles for themseleves before stepping back outside. With a flick of their wand, the candles were lit and floated until they reached the desried location of two doors down. The person smiled. A warm smile.
They are unaware of how long they have been just standing here, but the only thing that brought them back to reality was another soft bell. It signified that another door opened nearby. This time, a few witches and wizards stepped out. They were all holding candles. With a wave of their wands, Hogsmeade was decorated with more floating candles. Very reminisent of The Great Hall at Hogwarts Castle.
All the candles together had illuminated the space around them. The fog seemed to be no match for the light. It was a heartwarming sight. The individual this story was following wondered if they could say thank you to whomever sent out the first few candles. It was all beautiful. They look behind them only to see that where they had came from was filled with light now too. Light and wizards and witches alike looking at it all like they were.
Everyone were now able to see where they were going. But, they'll where they were at just for a second longer.
