The Carnival has come to Hogsmeade! It was that time of year again where a very well-known travel carnival and cirus show has made its way through magical and muggle villages alike. For most families or individuals, it became a welcomed tradition to participate in the festivities. That includes Liam, a well-loved owner of a trinket shop here. His store would not be opened for today, because today was a day just for him and his daughter.
Emma was her name. She was around seven years of age. Being dropped off by Liam's ex-wife, the little girl rushed into her dad's arms for a big bear hug, no hessitation.
"Are you ready for today, pumkin?" The young man asked her with a big smile on his face, letting her go from their hug as she responded with a eager nod and a
"Mhm!"
On the advertising flyer Liam had gotten, it talked about a cirus show promptly starting at Five O'clock in the big tent. Pleanty of time for the pair to go around the carnival to see what it offered this year! It was a very beautiful site. Stalls that weren't there prior, decorated the town's square. The forever snowy village caused the new stands to be topped with snow already. Hogsmeade had always smelled so wonderful, but today the sents were different. The good kind of different. Smelling of freshly popped popcorn, roated nuts, and newly oppened sweets.
Liam did wonder how long it took for all of this to be set up, but he was sure that the use of magic came very handy. At least he hoped so, looking at one of the largest attraction the travel carnival had. It was a merry go round. It's up-beat song looped each time the ride started up. But somehow it wasn't annoying, it was very pleasant. The seats were made to look like magestic horses and every other seat was made to look like a beautiful unicorn. Emma wanted her dad to ride on one of the unicorns and her wish was his command!
Merry go rounds were more linked with the Muggle world, so Liam wondered if today was some people's first time seeing this ride. This was not his daughter's first time on a merry go round, but her reaction could of fooled anyone. Smiling so wide and kicking her feet as they went round and round. It made her dad's heart swell with happiness.
They ended up riding more than once... as many times as they could until Emma felt sick. Her request, of course. Liam made sure she didn't run into anything as they hopped of from the spinning ride. It was smart thinking on his part, to get the merry go round out of the way before getting them the aforementioned lovely sented snacks from the food stalls.
Whilst walking around and chatting, Emma eventually spotted a stall that housed carnival games. Games and more importantly prizses. A particular Niffler stuffed animal caught her attention. Liam sighed to himself, before asking the kind woman there how much it was the play for the prize.
"13 sickles each turn."
...It took more than 13 sickles, but eventually Liam had won the toy for Emma. It was almost bigger than she was. The little girl held it with both arms in a hug as she happily pranced around as they continued walking. It was fitting that it was a toy that looked like a niffler seeing how much her father spent on it on accident. However, it didn't matter to Liam. In all honesty it didn't bother him, because his daughter's delighted giggles was his prize.
Using his pocket watch that was attached to his pant's belt loop, Liam saw that it was almost time for the circus show. Bringing Emma to the big tent, they arrived in good time. Enough time to pick out a seat in the middle that wasn't too close to the stage or too far back. Just the perfect angle to get a chance to see everything.
"Are you having a good day?" The dad asked after they had settled down on the bench. "The best!" Emma answered, honestly and lovingly. Liam smiled. He loved his little daughter so much. His ex-wife and him had shared-custody of her as they were in good terms and wanted both to have equal time to be there for Emma. It was something Liam was so grateful for. It was also the reason his shop was only opened during the weekdays. Despite the weekeneds being the most busy days at Hogsmeade, those days were just for them, similarily like today.
As they waited for the circus show to start, Emma leaned her head on her dad's shoulder as to rest for a bit. She did have a fun-filled day that wasn't over just yet! Emma loved her parents, though she loved being with her mum, she didn't see her dad as often as she would like. And though she loved the carnival, she didn't need all this to have the bright happiness in her eyes. She just needed a day with her father.
