Wow, it's been awhile hasn't it? While I know how much you missed us, so we're back with another edition of History of magical creatures and today we will be talking about...You guessed it Laprechauns!
Leprechauns are Irish Folklore, they are said to be gardians of hidden treasure though the myth about them is that if they are caught they have to give away the location of their hidden treasure. They are also said to cause a lot of mischief to those that are unaware and they are famous for being extremely hard to catch. Leprechauns are also said to share many characteristics with more ancient creatures from celtic and wider European mythology. But since the 19th century they have become more of the most reconizable symbols of Irish folklore.
1. Though it might not seem like it, Leprechains are part of the Fairie family, and they are said to have lived in Ireland long before humans had inhabited the land.
2. Leprechauns are said to be grouchy, untrusting, and solidary creatures.
3.Laprechaun is said to mean "small body"
4. Earlier accounts are described to have been wearing red and often warn three-cornered hats.
5. The Leprechauns have cousins called Clurichaun, these are also said to share characteristics with Leprechauns. However, they are described as being more troublesome than Leprechauns.
There have been verious different films, cartoons, and advertising popularized by Leprechauns which actually show little resemplance to anything found in Irish folklore. Along with many celtic music groups using the Leprechaun term as part of their name or as an album title. Some of the most famous Leprechaun characters are: Lucky, who is the mascot for Lucky Charms created by General Mills, and the Notre Dame Leprechaun who is the mascot for the fighting Irish sports teams at the University of Notre Dame.
These are all very interesting things about Leprechauns, I am so excited to share this with you and I cannot wait to take you on another adventure through the history of magical creatures.
