The Hot Seat is the place where I reveal the true life story of a beloved writer here on WoP. We delve into their WOP life history, their characters and a few juicy secrets.
If you've ever wondered why people join WoP and stay here for so long,
or perhaps wondered how it all began for them?
The Hot Seat is going to reveal it all!
For my next victiminterview, I am pumped to have a fellow wordsmith here, the CE of not one magical paper but two, the very inpsiring Celine Astor
Are you ready for it?
What made you originally join WoP and how along ago was that?
Honestly, I'd been doing a lot of text-based RPG in my native language before this, but we didnβt have many Harry Potter options for that. A google search in 2017 landed me onto a WoP site in my native language, though I soon found that I could simply not deal with the non-English terms for the fandom. Talk about a pet-peeve, haha. I made it a meagre week there before hopping over to US and I've been here ever since, sans a small sabbatical when school IRL got a bit busy.
That would be a trifle concerning eh? Do you remember what you were most excited about when you were on the site?
Honestly, just getting to write a character and explore their story! I've always loved writing and have been doing it as a kid. Of course, my writing definitely wasn't up to the same level as it is now, and I cringe quite a bit looking back, but I know I just loved the homework system giving me prompts to further explore my character whenever I wasn't doing topics!
Which house were you originally sorted into with your first character?
Gryffindor! It's honestly the house that most of my characters have been in over time, which definitely does not have to do with quidditch. Whoever told you that is spreading fake news, and I should know the difference as a CE! All jokes aside, it was the house that the sorting hat put me in the first time after filling in the quiz true to my character, and it is a house that I have had lovely memories with over the years. While it might be a little less of a popular house nowadays, it's still got a bunch of lovely people!
I think the lady doth protest too much ;) Do you remember the first piece of homework you submitted?
Oh heavens no! Honestly, I have the memory of a goldfish when it comes to that, haha. I do know that I had lots of fun in the chat and meeting people with my first ever character, though, and that I was planning a rather crazy, 2017 Wattpad-era backstory... I remember having lots of fun with the lessons though, getting to learn spells and potions and all that, but if you ask me for any details on it, I am afraid that I can't tell you those.
Now I'm got this vision of Celine in a goldfish bowl haha. How many characters have you written?
I've quite a few accounts, but characters that I've actively written? About eight or nine? Those are the ones I can remember writing topics and assignments on, at least, haha. I'm abstaining from mentioning any names, because I do love a good mystery π Though I'm sure some people are smart enough to figure them out π
I do love a good mystery too, and our site leaders are always throwing those right? What jobs have you had on site? Have you had a favourite?
I have to say that I started quite late with on-site jobs. I'd been busy with school first, so I never thought I would have the time for any, but after four real-life years on the site, I finally got my first job!
Fittingly enough, it was the job of a journalist. The Chief Editor at the time had been stalking my homework assignments and approached me via owl. After a bit of back and forth with a few questions about the job on my side, I decided to apply and the rest is history really. I've been a journalist for about 3 years IRL, though I did take a break in between because I was running into a bit of a burnout.
I guess it's pretty clear to say that that was my favorite job, haha, as I've only upgraded it now π But I've also been an AT, which is a great job if you love reading other people's homework assignments and interacting with them in a positive and constructive way. I've always loved seeing the creativity and effort that people put into their assignments and their characters and watching their writing grow over time <3
Where's your favourite place to topic?
Hmm, that is a hard one. Honestly, for me it's not so much the place as the people and the topic itself. You can have amazing topics anywhere as long as you're on the same wavelength and have a great idea that you can work out together!
I think in the past that I really loved doing topics on the grounds because you could go in a lot of different directions, but I've learned that almost any place can lead to so many opportunities in a topic, and if you have a great partner, you never know what to expect. Silly or dramatic twists and turns are the best!
I can well agree with that. Now one I've been itching to ask. How do you choose your face claims? Celine is epic!
Well, with Celine it wasn't so much me choosing it as a joint decision with the writer behind Tommy, haha. We'd been talking about planning a couple of graduated characters with the FC's of Penelope and Colin since we were both big Bridgerton fans.
Though, with my other accounts, I often try to match them to their appearance and age-range, but also their vibes. Sometimes it can be quite a long search in Face Claim directories, meaning I've got quite a few sources that I now use whenever I make a new account that needs a face. Over time you collect resources that help you out after all, especially when you've stuck around as long as me.
Also, this is just my personal preference, but if my character does have an on-site job, I like to match something of their FC with the job color that they have, if possible. I think that's part of what makes Celine so "epic" haha.
Huge Bridgerton fan myself so I can see the appeal. What's been the most fun topic you've written?
On Celine? My current topic with Azia! You might have seen the two of us consistently bantering in chat for a while now, and it all stems from that topic. Of course, behind the scenes we laugh about it a lot and we have lots of fun every time we got to reply to it, no hard feelings at all! The characters however... Well, that's a work in progress.
Of course, over my time on WoP, I've done loads and loads of topics, ones where I did elaborate stunts with my student characters, or ones where there was a ton of drama and heartwarming moments, but since each character is different, it's hard to pick one topic above all. I do have favorite topics for each character, however, because how could I not!
Whatβs your favourite thing about WoP?
The community! When I was just a baby who joined the site for the first time, I was a little scared with the chat going a million miles an hour. I didn't join in on there for a bit, but once I did, I was welcomed with open arms. I got to meet a lot of great people and soon we had running jokes, relations between our characters and just a lot of fun times in general. Some of them even became really great friends of mine, albeit online, and I couldn't be more grateful for that... even if I am rather horrible in keeping up regular contact. Sometimes my brain goes out of sight out of mind, sadly π
I can emphathise, I still have to choose a moment to jump in but I'm always welcomed. Can you share a secret about Celine we may not know?
Hmm, well, she is rather an open book, since she often tends to say whatever comes to mind without a filter, so she doesn't have a lot of secrets per say. But she's also a proud person, one who isn't quick to admit to her faults, so here might be a fun fact: For how accomplished she is at her job, she isn't all that great at charms and such. In fact, she often relies on others for more complicated spells or fixes, which annoys her a great deal.
Nothing wrong with having no filter, am I right? Okay, last question, What's next for Celine IG?
Hmm... Well, hopefully she and Tommy will finally turn that longstanding engagement into a wonderful wedding with friends and family, but that might still be a bit away, as both are quite busy people. Dragons and the Wizarding News aren't easy things to wrangle, after all π
She could definitely use a few more friends too, ones that aren't afraid of her candid nature and rather blunt words, because Merlin knows those are hard to find!
Dragons, newspapers and perhaps babies one day? We wish them luck either way! Thanks for your time Celine, it's been wonderful having you in the hot seat.
If you'd like to find yourself in The Hot Seat, then send me, Lucian Nightwell, an owl and we'll make it happen.
