In the Cauldron
Edition #07
By: Zyan Bramen
Hello and Welcome to the revived series of 'In the Cauldron' our recipe blog where we create and share Harry Potter/IG seasonal baked goods for you try out.
We have decided to go down the savoury route today, with a British classic that we feel confident would be a popular edition to any feast table.
So what is this mystery meal? Why Toad in the Hole of course. A delightful dish comprised of classic yorkshire pudding and sausages.
Now what are you waiting for, time to go preheat that oven (or not if you're anything like me) and get baking.
Toad in the Hole
Ingredients:
12 sausages of your choice
1 tbsp sunflower oil
For the batter
140g plain flour
Pinch of salt
2 eggs
175ml semi-skimmed milk
Recipe:
In a roasting tin lightly coat with oil and cook the sausages until brown.
While the sausages are cooking make the batter.
Mix the flour and salt in a bowl, then crack the eggs and slowly mix in with the flour.
Once the egg is mixed in, slowly add the milk stirring as you do.
Leave this mixture to sit while the sausages cook.
When the sausages are browned, carefully remove from the oven.
Pour over the mixture and put back into the oven from 30minutes until risen and golden.
The Side - Gravy
Ingredients:
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups warm stock (your choice)
Salt and Pepper to taste
Recipe:
In a pot melt the butter. When it's melted and sizzling, whisk in the flour.
Whisk until the flour and butter turn into a smooth paste and look medium blonde in color; about 1 minute. It should smell like browned butter.
Pour in stock and whisk until smooth.
Bring the gravy to a low simmer. As it simmers, it thickens and becomes glossy.
Season to taste, and serve hot.
