The Hot Seat is the place where I reveal the true life story of a beloved writer here on WoP. We delve into their WOP life history, their characters and a few juicy secrets.
If you've ever wondered why people join WoP and stay here for so long,
or perhaps wondered how it all began for them?
The Hot Seat is going to reveal it all!
I'm honoured to have got the honourable Hogwarts Head Mistress for my next interview. Nina Hayes, lets dive in!
What made you originally join WoP and how along ago was that?
I originally joined WoP many years ago; I think 7-8! Though that has been an on/off journey, but US has been my home for over two years now. But I joined initially as I was seeking a community. I loved (and still do love) writing, reading, creating and talking all things HP so when I stumbled across WoP I knew it was the place for me.
Aww a kindred spirit. Do you remember what you were most excited about when you were on the site?
I was excited about many things, perhaps even everything. I think I was potentially the most excited about finding people to RP with, but I have also always been a sucker for writing homework.
It really helps you expand your character. Which house were you orginally sorted into with your first character?
I was an Eagle, in fact the majority of my characters over the years have been eagles. I actually only created a Lion alt for the first time 3 years ago.
I know a certain HoH that will be happy with that answer. Do you remember the first piece of homework you submitted?
Goodness, that was a long time ago! Sadly my old homework logs have been lost to the ages (aka weren't saved to the cloud so died with my old computer - rookie mistake xD) But if I had to guess, I would say it was probably something for DADA or maybe Muggle Studies. I've always enjoyed writing Muggle Studies homework from a pureblood perspective.
I agree, there's something about viewing the mundane from a magical slant. How many characters have you written?
You know, considering how long I have been around, I have been rather tame with my characters. I counted them today, and while some have been deleted, I think in total I have had 12 characters across WoP. Don't get me started on WoX or RPG in general, though, as that list will start to grow quite quickly. I do attempt to keep a low profile with my alts, but for those that like a good ole alt hunt (or a stalky stalk) I have 3 others on WoP US. I just ask that if you find them, you don't spoil it for anyone else.
That's admirable, you commit to the ones you have I'm sure. What jobs have you had on site? Have you had a favourite?
I have had my fair share of WoP jobs! On US I have had the privilege of being SoMe lead, this was my first grad job on US and I had a great time making content and writing blogs. They are even still up on our socials so you can always go check them out (hint hint). Then the Backstory lead came up and I jumped at the chance to return to my stalker ways (former grep here), the backstory team is amazing and they will always hold a special place in my heart! (I love you blueberries) but when Ise mentioned a brand new management opportunity on US I just had to put my name forward, and that began my journey as the Graduate Advisor. Though when we lost old Brandy, or rather he decided to travel, I found myself becoming our HM which is perhaps one of the greatest adventures I have undertaken on WoP so far. I truly love all of you! And of course I have to mention my position on the Eagles House Event Team. Nina might be a formerly uptight Auror, now teacher, but they like to party just as much as the next person.
Aww and we love you too! Where's your favourite place to topic?
I have two answers to this one. As a student my favourite place to topic is the library. I really am an Eagle at heart, so I just love the cozy nature of a space filled with books, and I have had some great topics in the library over my years. Though as a graduate, I do enjoy a good Ministry topic.
I'm a sucker for the library too, or anywhere with old books really. Where do you start when you write your character bio?
Well, the first thing I do with a new character is pick their faceclaim. For me this is the first step in allowing the character to feel real, and I then follow that up with a name. After that I tend to let the character pick their own course, as cliche as that sounds. Sometimes that means I just list random facts, or I will create a core childhood memory that will kick off the process. For Nina, the first thing I knew about them was that they had been in the Navy. Then I just had to work around that. Another great method I like to use is to imagine their dream job, then think about why they would want it and who they will become in the process of gaining it.
Love hearing about your process. Whats been the most fun topic you've written?
Too many to choose from. Every topic I write has been fun; I really like letting the topic take its own course and just seeing what comes out of a collaboration between myself and the amazing person I am writing with at the time.
I do love a good collab. What’s your favourite thing about wop?
My favourite thing about WoP is the people! I love getting to know everyone, and I have made some great friends through WoP. Creating characters, plotting relations and just generally unleashing chaos upon this site is amazing, but it becomes even better when you have people to do it with you.
We have such a special community don't we. Can you share a secret about Nina we may not know?
I've been thinking about this one for awhile and I'm still not sure I have an answer. Nina is still very much a mystery to me, somehow this grumpy Auror has managed to get married and become head of a school filled with children. I never know what will come next for Nina, but perhaps we can uncover the next secret together?
You see, I always knew you were special. Do you have any future plans for Nina?
It is hard to make plans for Nina, as I said I seem to be just as much in the dark as everyone else when it comes to them. But at the moment I am living my best life with the fantastic limes and have many plots up my sleeve ;D
Well, interviewing my ex wasn't aaaaaaaaaas bad as I thought, thanks for your time Nina.
If you'd like to find yourself in The Hot Seat, then send me, Lucian Nightwell, an owl and we'll make it happen.
