Hello everyone! Welcome to the back to the "Amazing Creatures of Magic"! I hope you are all having a wonderful week. Today's creature was suggested by the lovely Molly Edwards!

What is this blog about? Well, in each of the “Amazing Creatures of Magic” blogs, I will be featuring and giving a background on a magical/mythical creature that can either be real or not, domesticated or even dangerous. All creatures deserve a spotlight! The creature we will be focusing on today is the...

History:

The Bowtruckle can be found in western England, southern Germany, and Scandinavia. A bowtruckle serves as a tree-guardian for its home tree, which is usually a tree whose wood is of wand quality. The twiglike fingers of the bowtruckle appear to be like an adaptation of a woodpecker’s beak, allowing it to more effectively dig out its preferred food of woodlice from its home tree. They can also serve as a weapon against the eyes of an opponent. They are normally peaceful creatures but, a bowtruckle will attack if they are provoked (for example: when the bowtruckle’s tree or the bowtruckle itself is threatened). A witch or wizard who wants to take the leaves or wood from a bowtruckle-inhabited tree should offer woodlice or fairy eggs to the bowtruckle to distract it.

Appearance:

Bowtruckles are small insect-eating tree-dwellers with long sharp fingers (two on each hand), brown eyes, and an appearance of a flat-faced little stickman made of bark and twigs. That serves well as camouflage in its habitat. Their maximum height is 8 inches. They have a Classification of XX.

Fun Facts:

• A group of Bowtruckles is called a “branch”

• In the 21st century, a branch of bowtruckles was unleashed as a Confoundable by the Calamity and had to be dealt with by the Statute of Secrecy Task Force and returned to the Black Forest in Germany.

• The word "bow" was an old Scottish dialect that means "dwelling," and "truckle" means "limb of a tree" in old English dialect. This means "to take a subordinate position."

Question: Would you like to have an army of branches? xD

~ Let me know in the comments if you would! ~

I've seen people with armies of other creatures, so yes, I think it would be very useful to have an army of small creatures with you xD.
