Hello everyone! Welcome to the back to another "Amazing Creatures of Magic"! I hope you are all having an amazing week! Today's creature was inspired by Unicorn Hermione!

What is this blog about? Well, in each of the “Amazing Creatures of Magic” blogs, I will be featuring and giving a background on a magical/mythical creature that can either be real or not, domesticated or even dangerous. ALL creatures deserve a spotlight! The magical creature we will be focusing on today is the...

History:

The unicorn was a creature that the ancient Greeks believed resided in India. Though commonly depicted in modern fantasy (like in Harry Potter!) as being a horse with a single horn, unicorns in older times were also described as goats, wild donkeys, or some form of a hybrid creature. The concept of them being more comfortable with witches than wizards possibly comes from medieval beliefs that only a maiden could tame a unicorn. Unicorns were considered pure and sacred creatures. Drinking their blood to preserve one’s life was considered a heinous and immoral crime.

Appearance:

Unicorn foals are born pure gold in color. They remained gold, until they are about two years old, at which they turned silver in color. At around four years old, their horn grows in. They are fully grown at around seven years old, and at this age, they turned a shade of pure white that is so bright that it makes freshly fallen snow looked grey in comparison. Their hooves are golden (from their gold stage to the first two years of their life). The blood of a unicorn was silver-blue and shone under the moonlight. It is not known for how long a Unicorn can live.

The Unicorns inhabited the forests of Europe, including the Forbidden Forest by Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Unicorns are very fast so they can rarely be caught by humans. They are also fast enough to outrun werewolves with ease.

The Unicorns Magical of Magic Classification is: Beast and XXXX

Fun Facts:

• Unicorn horn is often used as a common potion ingredient.

• The unicorn's single straight horn was used, in the Study of Ancient Runes, to symbolize number one as a runic number symbol.

• The existence of unicorns was one of the worst-kept secrets of the wizarding world, as unicorns were extremely associated with magic in the Muggle world.

Question: What creature do you think would be best buds with a unicorn?

(shout out to Katherine Hermione for the question :3)

~ Let me know in the comments what you think! ~

I think that a Niffler would be good friends with a unicorn since the Niffler likes shiny things and unicorns are pretty shiny!
