Inventor Nicholas Flamel

Overview

The Elixir of Life was a potion invented by Nicholas Flamel that could be procured from the Philosopher’s Stone. Drinking the elixir would make you immortal, as long as you consumed it regularly. The elixir could also restore a disembodied soul to full life, as long as the soul remained on earth. Lord Voldemort planned to steal the Philosopher’s Stone and the elixir to return to full power. Another goal in creating the elixir was to develop a panacea, a remedy that would prolong life indefinitely and cure all diseases.

History

During the 14th century, wizard Nicholas Flamel became the only known creator of the Philosopher’s Stone and, in turn, the elixir. He used it to extend his and his wife Perenelle’s lifespans. The study of this potion was banned at Hogwarts. However, details of the elixir were found in the Alchemy section of the Hogwarts library.
