Childhood

It isn’t known what Neville did before Hogwarts - it is only known that he also was a victim of embarrassment of different sorts back then. For example, it took a long time before the young Neville had shown any signs of his magical abilities. His whole family had believed he would'vebeen a squib and his granduncle Angie had begun drastic measures to make Neville show any signs of his magical abilities. These methods included (among others) that Neville is pushed from a pier into the water, where he was first rescued when nearly drowned. When Neville was eight years old, Angie hung him out the window at the ankles, but unfortunately accidentally dropped him.Neville fell out of the window with his head first, but instead of being injured; he just bounced like a ball across the lawn. Now it was certain that Neville wasn’t a squib and the family could be proud of him. His rewards was an offering of sweets.

Attending Hogwarts

Of all wizards, who have ever gone to Hogwarts, Neville Longbottom has arguably been the student who hasbeen through the biggest transformation. He started out as the nervous boy who always lost his toad and broke his wrist(after he crashing in Flying Class in the very first lesson). Nevillewas the victim of bullying from the boys of the Slytherin House and he was far from a brilliant student in the class. In his seven years, he went from being that awkward boy to being what you would call a true hero.

When Neville started on Hogwarts in 1991, he was sorted into Gryffindor House and actually shared a dormitory with none other than Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley. Throughout all of Neville’s first year, he didn’t show any signs of talent in any other subjects except for Herbology. Longbottom quickly becoming a victim and afraid of the teacher, Severus Snape. At the end of the year, he was awarded 10 points for bravery when he stood up against his friends Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.Neville wasn’t aware of their good intentions, but he just didn’t want them to cost Gryffindor any more points in the House Cup. This is an important moment in Neville’s transformation from the victim to the hero.
On Neville’s fifth year, he volunteered to join the organization called Dumbledore’s Army - An organization created after Dolores Umbridge had become the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Harry Potter was the leader of this organization and he taught the other members to defend themselves against the Dark Arts. Neville was, as always, behind everyone--but he worked harder than anybodyelse. He successfully mastered the Expilliarmus Spell and later that year was a part of the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. In this battle, Neville wasaccompanied by 5 other members of Dumbledore’s Army (Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Luna Lovegood and Ginny Weasley). The membership of the club had given Neville just enough confidence, which helped him slowly develop. He was beginning to respect himself for who he was andcontinued to improveat Herbology andDefense Against the Dark Arts.
In 1997 (Neville’s last year), Hogwarts was being overtaken by Death Eaters andNeville was one of the brave students that fought back. He battledside by side with other loyal members of Dumbledore’s Army until they were forced into hiding in the Room of Requirement. Here lived the students loyal to Headmaster Dumbledore, where they atefood given to them from Hog’s Head Inn. It wasn't until Neville helped Harry Potter return tothe castle that the Battle of Hogwarts began on May 2nd of 1998. When the Death Eaters invaded the castle, Neville foughtwith the Order of the Phoenix, Hogwarts’ staff, and the rest of Dumbledore’s Army.He used his knowledge of Herbology and attacked the Death Eaters with plants from the school’s greenhouses. When Harry Potter appeared to be dead, Neville refused to join the Death Eaters and was forced to put on a burning Sorting Hat. Once again he was in a bad situation, but for the first time, he helpedhimself by breaking free from the Full Body-Bind Curse. Longbottompulled the Sword of Gryffindor out of the Sorting Hat and killed Voldemort’s pet snake, Nagini - the last Horcrux had been destroyed and the second to last step in the destruction of Voldemort.

After the Dark Lord's Demise

After the Battle of Hogwarts, Neville took his N.E.W.T exam and was an Auror for a short while. Later, he was given the position of teacher in Herbology for Hogwarts. He is happily married to Hannah Abbott and has no children. The pair lives above the Leaky Cauldron in London.
