Overview
The Wand-Lighting charm, when casted, emitted a small light from the tip of the caster’s wand. Some sources say that the charm could also be used to reveal objects that were magically hidden.
Effects
Lumos is a simple yet effective spell that casts a light. Magical people use it to see in the dark, and reveal magically hidden objects. The wand light is also very warm, and can set things aflame, including the wand of a careless caster. The wand light from Lumos was also able to repel ghosts and other spectral beings, as well as illuminating magically hidden architecture (like doorways). It is also said that while the caster of Lumos does need to own a wand, they don’t need to hold it. Some have said their wand would still light up, even if some distance away. There are three known variations - Lumos Solem, Lumos Duo, and Lumos Maxima.
History
Invented in the 18th century by Levina Monkstanley, it was first publicly used in 1772 by the creator in the Ministry of Magic when she used it to search for a fallen quill in a dusty corner. There was a claim by German Wizard Garvin Lugner, who said HE had invented the spell, but it turned out to be a lie. The spell is usually taught to first year students, and is used by those skulking around Hogwarts or the Forbidden Forest late at night. Lumos is also good for fending off Devil’s Snare.
