Overview

The swelling solution is a potion that causes the object it's touching to swell in size. It only held 3 ingredients, but the potion needed to be fermented before it was stable enough to use.

History

During the school years of 1985-1986 Snape taught his 2nd year students how to brew the swelling solution.

It was during the lesson about swelling solution that the trio of Harry, Ron and Hermione stole the ingredients for the polyjuice potion. While Harry was trying to brew the potion he set off some of his fireworks as a diversion for Hermione. The firework somehow reached Goyle’s cauldron and caused it to explode, which made the potion hit Draco who then had a swollen face.

In the school year of 2010-2011 Slughorn was teaching his 3rd year students how to brew the potion.
