Overview

It is said that Amortentia doesn’t actually create true love, but rather a strong obsession or infatuation, which can make it feel very unnatural. It’s taught at an advanced level in potion making (mostly N.E.W.T level) and is considered to be very dangerous because of its psychological effects

History

The potion has existed for centuries, though it's most often credited to a lady named Laverne De Montmorency, a 19th-century potioneer known for studying emotional magic. She focused on how potions could influence feelings, and her research led to the creation of the most powerful love potion known. At Hogwarts, Professor Slughorn later demonstrated it in his class, reminding students that it causes obsession and NOT real love.
