Overview
Giant Squids are one of the creatures that are also known to muggles. Their main diet consists of crustaceans, they have also been known for enjoying toast. Giant squids are able to live in both freshwater and saltwater territories and it was suspected that these creatures have some kind of magic, but this isn’t completely certain.
About the Creature
Giant squids can live in freshwater and saltwater, but they are very picky about their habitat despite this. It is very important for a giant squid to find the right territory to build a nest underwater, as it makes it easier for a youngling to survive. These creatures are very territorial and can become aggressive if they feel threatened or scared. If a giant squid feels stressed due to feeling threatened or not finding the right place for a nest, they will spray ink everywhere and can eventually become very violent and dangerous. Wizards have tried to domesticate them before, we know this due to several books being published about it, but it isn’t clear if they ever succeeded in this.
One of the more famous giant squids is the one that lives in the Great Lake. It is a semi-domesticated creature and doesn’t seem to attack or harm students at all, even allowing them to feed it bread. Many believe that this squid prevents people from swimming in the Great Lake, but it has been proven otherwise. Dennis Creevey fell into the lake one time during his first year and the squid rescued him by placing him back on the boat where he fell off.
