Overview
Nifflers are known to be very sneaky creatures that are attracted to all things shiny. This means that they are excellent to hunt for treasure, but could also wreak havoc if they are kept loose indoors. In general, Nifflers are known to be harmless creatures.
About the creature
Nifflers are rodent-like creatures with a long snout. Their fur is mostly black, but there are other known instances that suggest other coat colours are possible. These creatures are native to Britain and live in burrows that could be as deep as twenty feet (about 6 meters).
One distinction they have is the pouch on their belly. It can hold far more than you would think and is used to store all the shiny things they have collected.
Even if Nifflers can be gentle creatures, it is not advised to keep them as a pet indoors. The reason is that they can destroy belongings in their search for shiny and sparkly objects. It is also implied that these innocent looking magical creatures can become vicious if they are provoked. An example of this is the second Niffler that was released in Dolores Umbridge’s office who tried to bite into her leg.
