About the creature
The mooncalf might be most known for their unique appearance. They have a very wide and long neck, and big cartoon-like eyes that bulge out of their head. Their skin is very smooth with a pale grey tint to it. Lastly, they have four legs and their feet are very flat with webs between the feet. Mooncalves mostly live in groups.
Mooncalves are shy creatures that only come out of their burrow during a full moon. The mating ritual is believed to be complicated dance moves that are performed on their hind legs. However, this dance also creates strange geometric patterns in wheat fields that regularly confuse muggles.
The dung of a mooncalf is a very useful potion ingredient. Mooncalf dung and essence is a common method to lure in Hodags, a magical creature that feeds on mooncalves.
