Overview

Crookshanks was a half cat, half kneazle hybrid owned by Hermione Granger. He was great at solving problems on his own, and could sense untrustworthy people. He was purchased in 1993 in August by Hermione after the salesperson stated nobody wanted him. He was known to have been a significant addition during the second wizarding world, and many more times before the event, aiding Sirius, Harry and Ron multiple times.

Biography

Crookshanks was known to have targeted Ron's pet rat, Scabbers, who was really Peter Pettigrew in disguise on several occasions, this was due to his half kneazle blood, where he was able to detect frauds hiding as animals. He was named a remarkable animal by Ron for assisting him and his friends during several occasions. He helped Sirius Black while he was in his animagus form, stealing the passwords from Neville to Gryffindor tower to allow Sirius to enter. He also later helped Sirius freeze the whomping willow by pressing on the knot to reveal the secret tunnel. He also lured Harry, Ron and Hermione through the tunnel and into the shrieking shack. He also attempted to steal Harry's wand and after failure, he stood over Sirius's heart to protect him, which in turn gave Professor Lupin enough time to reveal the true identity behind Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew.

He eventually became more friendly towards others, but he kept his disapproval of bad behavior, often staring at Harry and Ron when they did something wrong. Ginny Weasley was quite fond of Crookshanks, often playing with him and enjoying his company. During a meeting with the order of the phoenix it was said Ginny used butterbeer corks to lure him out of the kitchen. During the second wizarding war, Crookshanks was with Hermione when she came to stay at the burrow. However, she was forced to leave him there due to death eaters interrupting the wedding between Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour. Eventually he passed away sometime between 1997 and 2021.

Physical Appearance

Crookshanks was said to be a very large, ginger cat with a unique and squished face. Harry often said he looked as if he had run into a wall headfirst. Some of his most noticeable traits were his bottle brush tail and bright yellow eyes.

Personality and traits

Due to him being half kneazle, Crookshanks was said to be smarter than most cats, able to immediately recognize people disguised as animagus's without having to know them. Sirius often claimed Crookshanks was one of the smartest cats he had ever met, this was likely due to him aiding Sirius more than once. He was also playful, always chasing gnomes, spiders and batting at chess pieces. In addition, he was fiercely loyal and loving to the people he liked. He protected Sirius Black, and eventually grew to love Harry, curling up on his lap on several occasions. Although he was loving to those he trusted, he could also be quite moody at times if things didn't go the way he wanted.
