Overview

Crabbe was a British pure-blood dark wizard and a loyal Death Eater. He was also the father of Vincent Crabbe. He often operated in the background during major events and was a faithful believer in pure-blood supremacy. He helped carry out Voldemort’s plans with other Death Eaters such as Lucius Malfoy and members of the Lestrange family.

Like his son, Crabbe was large and muscular, with a dull voice. He did not exude much intelligence or a quick wit; however, he was cunning enough to avoid time in Azkaban after the First Wizarding War had ended. His loyalties were questionable, but he was incredibly bloodthirsty and sadistic, like most Death Eaters. He was even willing to use the killing curse on Hermione Granger, who was only a teenager, during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. The specifics of his relationship with his son are unknown. Still, it can easily be implied that Vincent Crabbe dearly loved his father, as inferred by his outrage when Harry exposed Crabbe Sr. as a follower of Voldemort in his interview with The Quibbler.

History

History

He was born into the Crabbe family, a wizarding family full of pure-bloods. The family had been around for centuries, along with the ideology of pure-blood supremacy. They were associated with the Dark Arts and had produced at least one known Death Eater from each generation. He was possibly related to Irma Crabbe, wife of Pollux Black, a member of the highly regarded House of Black. If so, that would make the Crabbes distantly related to a network of many other pure-blooded wizarding families, including the Blacks, the Malfoys, and the Lestranges.

Crabbe was a Death Eater during the First Wizarding War and was loyal to Voldemort until his first defeat. Afterward, Crabbe was wrongfully acquitted of Death Eater status and not sent to Azkaban for any of his crimes. Around this time, he and his wife had a baby boy, Vincent Crabbe, who was in the same year as Harry Potter. Vincent quickly became friends with fellow Slytherin students Draco Malfoy and Gregory Goyle.

Crabbe was one of the Death Eaters who returned to Voldemort in 1995 when he returned to power. Crabbe did not attempt to find the Dark Lord after the Dark Lord was defeated the first time, which displeased Voldemort, but Voldemort ultimately forgave him. During the Second Wizarding War, Crabbe was a participant in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, and he was paired with Rabastan Lestrange to try to hunt down six members of Dumbledore’s Army. He was specifically looking to capture Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Neville Longbottom, who were all hiding out in the Time Room. He did find them, but the three were able to defend themselves.

The next year, during the Battle of Hogwarts, his son, Vincent Crabbe (who at this point was also a dark wizard), died from the effects of a Fiendfyre Curse he cast. Crabbe’s reaction to this is unknown, and it is also unknown if he was even aware of the event. Crabbe’s presence at the battle is not confirmed, but, likely, he was there, fighting alongside the other Death Eaters. After the war, it is presumed he was killed or given a life sentence in Azkaban.
