Overview
Kneazles are magical beasts that have a similar appearance to a normal cat. The fur can vary from spotted to speckled and even flecked fur. They have very large ears and have a tail that looks similar to that of a lion, skinny and lightly plumed at the end. Just like a cat, it is said that Kneazles have different breeds and that’s why the pattern and color of the fur can vary.
About the Creature
These creatures can be excellent pets if they like the witch or wizard that wants to own them and Kneazle owners are required to be licensed. Some wizards, or even squibs, made breeding Kneazles their income and how they made a living.
The hair of a Kneazle can be used as a wand core, but is seen to be inferior when compared to the three supreme wand cores, namely Phoenix Feather, Unicorn Hair and Dragon Heartstring.
The hair of a Kneazle is used in certain potions, like the Rat Spleen Mixture and Kneazle whiskers are sometimes used as a wand cores by sentimental wizards that want to honour their Kneazles.
Kneazles are creatures that are known for being highly intelligent, independent, but also slightly aggressive. They have the unexplainable ability to detect suspicious and untrustworthy people. However, like said before, Kneazles can be very lovable and bond with the one they find to be loyal and worthy of their compassion. If they are bonded with someone, they can protect and safe-guard that person and their home.
The reason Kneazles are considered Beasts of the XXX category, is their potential aggression towards individuals.
History
- Abel Treetops of Cincinnati claimed in 1832 when he claimed to have patented a method to tame Wampus cats so they can be used for protecting and guarding wizarding houses. He was, however, exposed as being a fraud when MACUSA raided his home and found out that was putting Engorgement Charms on Kneazles.
- Fifth year students had to look after Kneazles in Care of Magical Creatures during the 1890-1891 school year. Poppy Sweeting and a newly arrived fifth-year student had to defend a Kneazle named Persephone when a Slytherin and Ravenclaw student wanted to harvest and sell her whiskers.
- Fourth year students were taught about Kneazles by Professor Silvanus Kettleburn during the 1987-1988 school year.
- Jacob’s sibling and Charlie Weasley planned to capture a Wampus cat and practised on Kneazles first as a warm-up.
