Overview

Salvio Hexia is a powerful enchantment used to deflect hexes from the area in which it is cast. Even witches and wizards with little experience can cast this spell to protect smaller areas against hexes. The more powerful the caster, the more hexes the enchantment could block, and the more area it would cover. Extremely powerful casters could use the spell on entire castles.

History

In 1989, Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Patricia Rakepick taught her fifth-year students the charm as a practical, useful skill to learn. Kingsley Shacklebolt also taught this spell to Hogwarts students during his time as a special guest. In 1997, while hunting for Horcruxes, Hermione Granger used this spell to seal off an area in the Forest of Dean, where she, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley were staying at the time. She used this charm to protect the three of them from any dark forces that could have harmed them. Hermione used the spell once again to protect the trio when they were attacked by Death Eaters in a field in Devon. Harry Potter was also known to have cast this spell when he and Hermione were visiting Bathilda Bagshot, and after the trio broke into Gringott’s bank and retrieved Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup.
