Overview
Also known as the royal staff, asphodel is a member of the lily family. It has long and slender leaves and can be found worldwide. The plant required special, well drained soil to grow properly. Muggle claimed the plant came from the underworld.
The powdered root of asphodel can be used to brew the wiggenweld and draught of living death potions.
History
- 1990 - 1991: Professor Sprout taught seventh year students how to care for and properly grow Asphodel, the plant later appeared on the Herbology exam.
- September 2nd, 1991: Professor Snape mentioned Asphodel when he asked Harry Potter what potion would be brewed if powdered root of the plant was added to the infusion of wormwood during his first potions lesson.
