Overview
Gawain Robards is a British wizard who worked for the British Ministry of Magic as an Auror under Rufus Scrimgeour during the Second Wizarding War.
History
Following the downfall of Cornelius Fudge in 1996, he was replaced by Rufus Scrimgeour as the Minister of Magic. Robards was then promoted and took Scrimgeour's old job as Head of Auror Office and commanded the Dark Wizard Catchers for the Ministry of Magic’s losing battle against Voldemort, who had successfully returned to power. This loss was a direct result of the Ministry’s denial of Voldemort’s return. Scrimgeour wanted Harry Potter to become the Ministry’s new “poster boy" and offered to set up Harry for an interview with Gawain, knowing that Harry desired to be an Auror one day. Harry refused this offer.
After the Battle of Hogwarts, Robards continued his work at the Auror Office and was eventually succeeded by Harry Potter as Head of the Office in 2007. In the late 2010s, he retired from the department. During the Calamity in the late 2010s, he came out of retirement to train new Aurors from the Statute of Secrecy Task Force. He taught prospective Aurors training exercises to help with their stance as they were attacked, increasing the amount of damage they could take in combat. He also showed them the steps of casting the complicated Confusion Hex.
He later created a process called Aeration, claiming that blowing on a potion with a lot of strength while brewing it could make the resulting potion much more potent. An investigator encountered Robards while he was explaining this and tried the process themself, finding it very effective on their Potent Exstimulo Potions.
