Cowbane, also called Cicuta virosa was a poisonous plant that could be used to brew several potions.

Specifics

A splash of cowbane in an infusion could be used to brew the shrinking solution. Its essence could also be used to brew doxycide.

After the 19th century, Cowbane was grown in the Hogwarts greenhouses and were found in parts of the Scottish Highlands.

During the 1990 - 1991 school year, Pamona Sprout was growing Cowbane in the greenhouse, along with other magical plants in response to a doxy outbreak, in which students were being bitten and put in the hospital wing. She had Jacob's sibling, Chiara Lobosca and Barnaby Lee collect these plants so doxycide could be brewed and distributed.
