Overview

The Murtlap Essence is a potion that consists of tentacles of Murtlaps. These have to be strained and pickled. This potion is known for soothing painful cuts and abrasions and is therefore used as a healing potion.

History

There are multiple known users of the Murtlap Essence. For example, Hermione Granger used it to help Harry Potter heal the cuts on his hand after the detention he received from Dolores Umbridge. Later, Harry used it himself on Lee Jordan for the similar detention he received.

Lee Jordan told Fred and George Weasley to use Murtlap Essence on the boils they got after testing the Fever Fudge they produced. The Murtlap Essence was successful in curing these boils.

It is known that this potion even worked on animals, as Mathilda Grimblehawk’s partner used it on an injured Grindylow.
