Overview
Known for its rather boring and boxy houses with a garden in the front and back, Privet Drive is located in Little Winging in Surrey, which is near London in the southeast of England. The Dursleys lived on this street in house number four. The neighborhood was known to house people who were rich, snobby and overly nosy, their neighbors included families in 3 Privet Drive and 4 Privet Drive.
Harry Potter once remarked that they thought being scruffy was a reason to be punished by the law.
It has its own mailing service and number four received the newspaper daily, with other families possibly receiving this paper as well.
History
November 1rst, 1981 while reading a map Vernon Dursley noticed a tabby cat sitting on the corner. The cat stared at him, which he claimed was due to a light trick. Little did he know, the tabby cat was actually Minerva McGonagall in disguise, spying on him and his family. The same night, Albus Dumbledore, using his deluminator so the muggles wouldn't see him greeted McGonagall. Dumbledore and McGonagall, now in her human form, along with Rubeus Hagrid, who had arrived via flying motorbike came to give baby Harry Potter to the Dursley family after his parents had been killed by Voldemort.
During the summer of 1995, Privet Drive fell victim to several cases of accidental magic. First, Mundungus Fletcher Disapparated outside Number 4, which scared many of the neighbors, Vernon masked it as a car accident. Then, a dementor attack was witnessed by Mrs Figg, who Harry thought was a muggle but turned out to be a squib.
During the summer of 1997, Arthur Weasley and Kingsley Shacklebolt visited number four to warn Vernon about the new dangers of the muggle and magical worlds brought by Lord Voldemort and the death eaters. They reminded Vernon how important Harry Potter's safety was and warned him of possibly being targeted by the dark lord. Several people witnessed this, but due to Arthur and Kingsley being in muggle attire, they likely didn't draw suspicion.
Important Residents
Dudley lived on Privet Drive with Vernon and Petunia Dursley until him and his family were separated from Harry Potter and taken into hiding by Dedalus Diggle and Hestia Jones during the outbreak of the second wizarding war, the family likely returned to Privet Drive after the war was over. Both Vernon and Petunia Dursley lived on Privet Drive since before the first wizarding war. They moved out of fear of being targeted by Voldemort and his death eaters, but likely returned to the Drive afterwards with their son.
Harry Potter lived with the Dursleys from the age of one to eleven and when he wasn't at Hogwarts during summer break. Once he reached the age of Seventeen he moved out permanently. It is unknown if he ever went back to visit the Dursleys.
