Overview
Kreacher is a male house elf who served faithfully to House Black for most of his life leading up to being left to Harry Potter by Sirius Black upon his death in 1996. He was particularly fond of his mistress, Sirius Black's mother, Walburga Black who died in 1985. Even in death she had a hold over the ever loyal Kreacher who would take orders from her even after her death in the form of her portrait that hung upon the Black house wall in the front hall. Even though he still listened to the orders she would give, Kreacher did very little cleaning or upkeep of the home after her passing. Another he was fiercely loyal to was his Mistresses other son, Sirius Black's brother Regulus Black. Out of all of the members of the Black family, Kreacher's bond with Regulus appeared to be the strongest. It was partially because of Kreacher that Regulus would later turn against Voldemort after he discovered the cruel way his master treated Kreacher among a few other reasons Regulus deemed too far. Such as Voldemort's immortality coming from creating Horcruxes.
This would cause Regulus alongside Kreacher to go to the cave to steal Voldemort's locket. Regulus would perish here instead of ordering Kreacher to drink the Drink of Despair for him. Despite the death of the closest family member to Kreacher in the Black family, Kreacher would still assist the Dark Lord through Bellatrix and the Malfoy family years later. Later after many years passed Kreacher would eventually warm up to Harry Potter as well fighting alongside him in the Battle of Hogwarts as well as beside many other house elves. Kreacher would live on, surviving the Second Wizarding War. He would die much later in life around the time Albus Potter would be in attendance at Hogwarts. His allegiance to Harry being one that began once he realized that the boy was attempting to complete the job Regulus sought to do, making him one of the few he gave loyalty to. This was not even seen to be given to Sirius Black which was due to the fact that Sirius would treat Kreacher as if he was not worth anything. He would order him around ruthlessly. The treatment Kreacher experienced was due to Sirius Black's hatred of his family and their house. Kreacher would later turn on Sirius telling Bellatrix to exploit information on Sirius when it came to his Godson Harry Potter. Harry after a long while would gain his trust and loyalty. With less lies and deception over time. At first Harry would treat Kreacher ill, including ignoring him and not giving him any praise for an order well done. This however changed once Harry learned more about Kreacher's past and began to feel more sympathetic towards him as he started to be kinder. This is around the time that their relationship and dynamic would begin to improve.
History
- Between 2 May 1331 and 1979 - Kreacher was born and became a loyal servant in House Black.
- 1997 - Lord Voldemort in need of a house elf was offered Kreacher by Regulus Black, he volunteered Kreacher saying it would be an honour to serve the Dark Lord unknowingly almost sealing Kreachers Death.
- 1997 - Voldemort takes Kreacher to the Cave and forces him to drink the potion in the basin so that Voldemort could place Salazar Slytherin's Locket in the basin. The potion Kreacher took- an enchanted Emerald Potion also known as the Drink of Despair, caused Kreacher to have intense stomach pains as well as terrifying hallucinations while also causing severe dehydration. Voldemort obtained what was needed from the place and Kreacher then left Kreacher to drink from the lake and die at the hands of the inferi since water was not able to be conjured in the cave and would evaporate. However, Voldemort was unaware that house-elves can apparate out of locations that Witches and Wizards cannot, Kreacher in doing so with his own special form of magic was able to Disapparate from the cave and follow his masters orders to come home when finished with the task.
- 1979 - Regulus Black would later take Kreacher back to the same cave Voldemort once brought him to, this time instead to switch out the locket with a fake as well as not have Kreacher take the potion like Voldemort once did. The intent was after the switch they would go back to the family home and destroy the real locket, this did not go to plan as Regulus was pulled into the water to his death, leaving Kreacher alone to try to destroy the locket which he was unable to do despite the many attempts.
- 1985 - After the Death of Sirius and Regulus Black's mother, Walburga Black, Sirius would become Kreacher's master as he inherited Number 12 Grummauld Place and Kreacher along with it. This stood even as Sirius remained imprisoned in Azkaban.
- 1995 - When Arthur Weasley was attacked and the Weasley family as well as Harry arrived by portkey to the home Sirius ordered Kreacher who was witnessing everything to get out. Kreacher took this as permission to leave the home and go to Malfoy Manor where he then told Narcissa Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange about Harry Potter and Sirius Black's close relationship.
- June 18th 1996 - Kreacher would go under the orders of the Malfoys and hurt Buckbeak as a way to keep Sirius away from Harry. This would happen right before the Battle of the Department of Mysteries.
- June 18th 1996 - This led to Kreacher also lying to Harry causing him to believe that Sirius was indeed being tortured at the Department of Mysteries leading to an attempted rescue which resulted in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries and Sirius Black's death.
- 1996-1998 - Sirius left all his belongings which included Kreacher to his Godson Harry Potter. Harry had no desire to have anything to do with Kreacher and ordered him to work in the kitchens at Hogwarts with other house-elves. This worked in Harry's favor as he then had Kreacher as well as Dobby to be able to tail Draco Malfoy when he suspected him up to no good.
- Christmas 1996 - Kreacher would go and give Harry Potter a Box of Maggots as a gift. This would do well to show the dynamic between the two.
- 1997 - Harry forced Kreacher to tell him about Regulus Arcturus Black. Kreacher told Harry, Ron, and Hermione the story of the locket as well as his master's fate. Harry, after being told that Mundungus Fletcher stole the real locket, would then give Kreacher the fake locket as well as a note written by Regulus Black. This was the turning point between them as well as with Hermione and Ron who he had previously deemed mudblood and blood traitor.
- May 1st 1998 - Kreacher, now better favoring the Golden trio would treating all of them more kindly would go on the morning of the attempt to break into the Ministry of Magic to find the real locket of Salazar Slytherin and make the trio breakfast with a promised meal waiting for their return.
- May 2 1998 - The Battle of Hogwarts takes place, during which Kreacher would lead the house-elves of Hogwarts in the final battle against Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters for Harry Potter.
- After 1998 - Kreacher would pass away at 666 years old.
