Overview
Salazar Slytherin was a pure-blood, he was said to be very cunning and highly determined- these were qualities that he also prized in students of Slytherin House. He was considered one of the greatest wizards of the age as well as regarded for his abilities as a Parselmouth and a skilled Legilimens. Salazar was one of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry which he had done so along with Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, and Rowena Ravenclaw. He was not only the head of the Slytherin house but the very namesake. He was known to have very specific views and beliefs when it came to Muggle-born students and their attendance to the school. This was shown through his proposal of not allowing muggle-born students to attend Hogwarts. This was ultimately denied by the three other founders as they did not share the same views as Salazar. In response to this Salazar left the school and constructed the Chamber of Secrets to house a Basilisk. This was so that one day the Heir of Slytherin would be able to purge the school of all Muggle-borns in his name while fulfilling his long-lasting wish of having only students with at least one wizarding relative. This ambition would be the very same thing the Sorting Hat would refer to him as; power hungry. His ruthless and unscrupulous nature as well as his pure-blood supremacist views would be adopted by many descendants of his, one most infamously Lord Voldemort. Along with the traits of ambitious, cunning, and determined he was also known to be very proud and quite vain and even resourceful.

History
- Before 976 A.D - Salazar Slytherin was born to a Pure-blood family in England where he was raised in a fen-land area. He along with his family have the rare magical ability of speaking Parseltongue.
- 990 A.D - Salazar Slytherin among Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw all founded Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This is where he would hand pick the student that would attend Hogwarts and be specifically sorted into House Slytherin. Qualities he would look for are the ability to speak Parseltongue, a certain disregard for rules, resourcefulness, determination, ambition, as well as cunning.
- 990s A.D - Salazar would not only be the Head of Slytherin House but a professor as well, not only in favor of the dark arts but actively teaching his students Unforgivable Curses as well as the study of Dark relics. He was known to once during these times send a student of his on a task to study a Dark relic in the nearby Feldcroft Catacomb. The object having the power to summon inferi.
- 990 A.D - During these years he would also construct a secret Scriptorium which could only be accessed by those who could speak Parseltongue as well as having the willingness to cast the Cruciatus Curse on somebody else as a means of entrance. The Scriptorium being lost to history only known to those that were descendants of House Gaunt. This secret made its way through the generations until it was opened once again by Ominis Gaunt along with Sebastian Sallow and their mutual friend is 1890-1891.
- 990 A.D - Salazar Slytherin was also responsible for the construction of the Chamber of Secrets beneath the Dungeons of Hogwarts Castle. The Chamber contained a Basilisk which could only be controlled by his own descendant, “The Heir of Slytherin”. Once opened they were to purge the school of all muggle-born students finally bringing to an end Salazar's long term want and goal. This came to be in 1943 when Tom Riddle opened the chamber and used the Basilisk to attack Muggle-borns, this resulted in the death of Myrtle Warren. Then again it was opened in 1992 by Ginny Weasley who was under the influence of Tom Riddle's Diary, a Horcrux containing a fragment of his soul.
- Between 992 A.D and 1000s - Slytherin would demand that the school only admit pure-blood students resulting in not only a strong disagreement between the founders but as well as a large falling out between Godric Gryffindor and himself. A bitter battle between the two caused Salazar Slytherin to ultimately leave Hogwarts for good.
- 1000s - Salazar Slytherin would pass, no known record of how exactly he came to pass though many assumed from old age. After his passing Hogwarts would hang portraits of Salazar in the castle. One guarding a shortcut between the Dungeons antechamber and the Entrance Hall side room using the password “Mortal Dread” to have access to this passageway. The other was hung at the Headmasters office as part of the Headmaster portraits gallery.
