Hogwarts Houses

The Four Hogwarts Houses Explained

Every witch and wizard who attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is sorted into one of four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history, unique traits, and famous alumni that make it special.

Gryffindor — The House of the Brave

Founded by Godric Gryffindor, this house values bravery, nerve, and chivalry above all else. Famous members include Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Albus Dumbledore. The Gryffindor common room sits in one of Hogwarts' tallest towers, guarded by the portrait of the Fat Lady.

Hufflepuff — The House of the Loyal

Helga Hufflepuff's house prizes hard work, patience, justice, and loyalty. Notable Hufflepuffs include Newt Scamander and Cedric Diggory. Often underestimated, Hufflepuff has produced some of the wizarding world's most dependable and kind-hearted witches and wizards.

Ravenclaw — The House of the Wise

Rowena Ravenclaw's house values wit, learning, and wisdom. Members like Luna Lovegood and Cho Chang embody the house's creative and intellectual spirit. Ravenclaws are known for their love of knowledge and their clever approach to problem-solving.

Slytherin — The House of the Ambitious

Salazar Slytherin founded a house that values ambition, cunning, leadership, and resourcefulness. While Slytherin has produced dark wizards like Voldemort, it has also given the world heroes like Severus Snape and Merlin himself.
