Overview

This is an enchanted cage that is used to contain Baby Nifflers in, hence the name. These little creatures are known to be quite hard to contain and to keep in one place, as they could slip through spaces that are extremely small. It was thus strongly advised to keep them in one of these Baby Niffler proof cages with added gold inside to distract them.

History

Newt Scamander kept one of these cages by 1927 in his basement in his house on 9 Sherringford Square. He also kept other magical beasts here and his assistant Bunty Broadacre had to catch several Baby Nifflers and put them back in their cages after they had escaped.

During the Calamity, during the late 2010s and early 2020s, Baby Niffler Cages became a foundable during this time, this term used by the Ministry of Magic to refer to people, creatures, objects and memories that were displaced in the Muggle world during the Calamity. The Statue of Secrecy Task Force had managed to return this Foundable and the minister of that time, Hermione Granger, has recalled that she had seen several of these cages being used to keep baby beasts in horrible conditions in a wizarding black market in Jakarta.
