Overview

Stinksap is a green fluid that smells like rancid manure and is contained in plants such as Mimbulus mimbletonia. The plant uses stinksap as a defense mechanism when touched. The fluid can also be used to heal ill animals.

Specifics

In the 16th century, the mishandling of some Mimbulus mimbletonia resulted in a large amount of stinksap filling a corridor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This hallway would later become known as the infamous “Pungent Passage.”

Neville Longbottom once showed his classmates the new Mimbulus mimbletonia he had acquired on the Hogwarts Express. When he reached to touch the plant, stinksap sprayed across the entire train compartment.

In 1996, Aragog, leader of the Forbidden Forest Acromantula Colony, fell ill, and Rubeus Hagrid attempted to use stinksap to nurse the spider back to health. His efforts were in vain, however, as Aragog later died.
